Ms. Sherer previously worked for Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee, for 13 years, where she performed diagnostic imaging procedures and served as the department’s Compliance/Education Coordinator.

Ms. Sherer previously worked at Memorial Hospital of Burlington County (now Virtua Health System Memorial Hospital) in Mount Holly, New Jersey, for more than 16 years, first as radiography program director and then as an educational administrative assistant for the Department of Radiology.

Ms. Sherer obtained her ARRT certification in 1965. She worked in various technical and teaching positions in the New Jersey area before graduating with an associate degree in science from the College of Allied Health Professions, Hahnemann Medical College, and Hospital of Philadelphia in 1980. (Hahnemann University).

She has been an active and leading member of several professional organizations, serving on the American Society of Radiologic Technologists’ committees and task forces, president of the 28th Mideastern Conference of Radiologic Technologists, and president chairman of the New Jersey Society of Radiologic Technologists Board of Directors. For the membership year 1989–1991, he served as chairman of the Radiologic Technology editorial review board. For the membership years 1989–1991 and 1991–1993, he was a 43 Committee on Memorial Lectures.

Ms. Sherer was elevated to the status of Fellow of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists in June 1990 for her services and contributions to the profession of radiologic technology. She still holds this professional distinction.

Ms. Sherer is the primary author of the first edition of Radiation Protection for Student Radiographers and the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh editions of Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography as this edition. She is also the author of Q & A: Preparation for Credentialing in Radiography, published by W.B. Saunders Company in 1993. She was a co-author of the textbook Radiation Protection for Dental Radiography, published by Multi-Media Publishing in Denver in 1984.

Ms. Sherer’s articles have appeared in Radiologic Technology, The Journal of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and ADVANCE for Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals, a Merion Publications national biweekly newspaper. She has also worked for ADVANCE as a consultant.

Radiobiology and Radiation Protection, the fourth program in Mosby’s Radiographic Instructional Series, was released in 1999 as a CD-ROM (and slide series) presentation consisting of eight modules lasting approximately one hour each. The audiovisual materials were accompanied by a Study Guide and an Instructor’s Manual. Ms. Sherer worked as a technical reviewer and chief consultant on the program’s development.

Ms. Sherer most recently served on the advisory board for the second, third, fourth, and fifth editions of Saunders/Radiography Elsevier’s Essentials for Limited Practice. For more than 30 years, Paula J. Visconti, Ph.D., DABR, was the chief medical physics and radiation safety officer at Virtua Health System Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

She had also worked as the radiation safety officer for the entire Virtua Health System in southern New Jersey, which consists of four hospitals. In 1971, Dr. Visconti earned a Ph.D. in experimental atomic physics from the City University of New York. After several years, she was a full-time instructor in the Physics Department at City College of New York. Dr. Visconti began her career in medical physics as an associate physicist at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in New York City.

She gave numerous radiologic physics lectures to both therapeutic radiology residents and student radiographers during that time. Dr. Visconti is a member of the Society of Sigma Xi, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, and the American College of Radiology. The American Board of Radiology has certified him in therapeutic radiologic physics.

E. Russell Ritenour, Ph.D., DABR, FAAPM, FACR, is currently a professor and chief medical physicist at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Radiology and Radiological Science Department. He previously worked as a professor and chief of the physics section at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Department of Radiology and as the director of graduate studies in biophysical sciences and medical physics at the University of Minnesota Graduate School.

Dr. Ritenour received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Virginia and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in medical physics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, the National Institutes of Health-funded. He remained on the faculty of the University of Colorado for ten years, serving as the director of the graduate medical physics training program, before moving to the University of Minnesota in 1989.
Dr. Ritenour has worked as a radiation safety officer for some hospitals and research institutions.

He has also worked as a consultant for the United States Army on resident training programs. Dr. Ritenour is the past president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Health Physics Society and a regular contributor to the 45-year-old society’s website feature “Ask the Expert.” He has chaired the education and training committees of the American College of Radiology and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

He has served as a board examiner and the American Board of Radiology’s written examination committee chair. Kelli Welch Haynes, MSRS, RT (R), is a tenured associate professor and the Program Director for Northwestern State University’s Bachelor of Science program in Shreveport, Louisiana. She is also a member of the graduate faculty. Mrs. Haynes received her Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern State in 1995 and her Master of Science in Radiologic Sciences with a concentration in Administration from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 2000.

Mrs. Haynes worked as the Director of Radiology at Lagniappe Hospital (now Promise Hospital) in Shreveport, Louisiana, for five years before becoming an educator in August 2000. She performed diagnostic radiography exams and computed tomography. She has been an active member of several professional organizations, serving on the boards, committees, and task forces of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, as chapter director of the Louisiana Alpha chapter of Lambda Nu, the national honor society for radiologic and imaging sciences, and as President of the Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences, as well as a site visitor for the Joint Review Committee on Educ.

She also belongs to the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Sciences. For the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, she has created six online continuing education modules. Mrs. Haynes has reviewed numerous radiologic sciences textbooks. She made the Mosby’s Radiographic Online (MRO) for Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography, 7th edition, Bontrager’s Textbook of Radiographic Positioning and Related Anatomy, 46, and Sectional Anatomy for Imaging Professionals in radiography.
