Dr. Jason Cafer works as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia. From 2019 to April 2022, he was the Medical Director for Behavioral Health Services at SSM Health/St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was the attending physician for a busy 20-bed acute inpatient psychiatric unit.

He got his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in 2003. In 2007, he finished his residency in psychiatry at the same school. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Addiction Medicine).

Before working at St. Mary’s, he was a psychiatrist at Fulton State Hospital and Comprehensive Health Systems. In 2007, he started Iconic Health, a startup in medical informatics that got money from an angel round. From 2007 to 2009, the US Department of Agriculture gave him Phase I and II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants for “Online Rural Telepsychiatry Platform.” He was in charge of these grants.

He is the person who came up with the United States Patent US8255241B2. In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services gave him an SBIR grant for “Medication IconoGraphs: Visualization of Complex Medication Regimens.” During his time as a preceptor for the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program at Stephens College, he finished Cafers’ Psychopharmacology.
